How many pieces are in a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle?
That’s right…1,000 small, simple pieces.
But when you dump all those pieces out of the box and onto the table, it looks overwhelming. A pile of shapes and colors that don’t make sense. How can they all possibly go together and create the image on the front of the box?
Once you separate the pieces and look at them individually, they are actually quite simple.
Small pieces of cardboard, shaped to perfectly fit into their adjoining pieces.
First, you find the corner pieces. Then you find the end pieces. Then you start matching the shapes and colors. Things become clearer. The pieces easily fit together. The picture on the front of the box emerges, and the puzzle gets solved.
It’s really quite simple to solve even the most complex jigsaw puzzle when you go piece by piece.
The same mindset applies to any problem you have to solve.
Everything is easy when broken down into its smallest possible components.
No matter how large, intimidating, or overwhelming the problem you need to solve may be. In the end, it is made up of many small, simple, easy to accomplish steps.
So the next time you are feeling overwhelmed by a problem, feeling hopeless, wondering how on earth you can possibly solve it.
Break it down to its absolute smallest pieces.
Start putting them together.
And solve the puzzle.
