When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” – Marcus Aurelius
A question I get asked too frequently…
“What keeps you up at night?”
Meh.
It is one of my least favorite questions.
I would much rather have someone ask me:
“What gets you out of bed in the morning?”
What keeps you up a night is a fear-based question. You are basically asking someone what they are afraid of. That’s no fun. I mean, sure, I could talk about things that scare me. Things that could possibly go wrong. Things that worry me.
Ugh. Who wants to do that?
Instead, I would rather talk about…
The things that put me on the offensive instead of the defensive. The things that I am passionate about. The things that make me jump out of bed with excitement to start working on.
After all, if I am going to lose sleep, I would rather lose it from excitement than fear.
So, the next time you are tempted to ask someone what keeps them up at night, spin it in a positive direction. Ask them what gets them out of bed in the morning instead.
You will be treated to a much more energizing conversation.
